Every member of Monkey D.Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates crew forms an important part of the One Piece universe. Although Luffy is the story’s main protagonist and has his own epic battles, his crew member such as Zoro to Sanji and Robin each have their individual legendary battles throughout the story arcs as well. In this post, we pick out five of the very best fights so far in the series. But if you only wanna check out for Luffy’s fight, do find it here.
Roronoa Zoro vs Pica
The battle that propels Zoro into the top swordsman league. Along with captain Monkey D.Luffy and Sanji, they are known as the monster Trio of the Straw Hat Pirates Crew. During the past arcs Zoro has always been acting as the right-hand fighter of Luffy and in the Dressrosa Arc, it’s still the same as he takes on Pica, Shichibukai Donquixote Doflamingo’s top executive.
Pica is the user of the Stone-Stone devil fruit, who allows him to manipulate all stones he makes contact with. Thus, in the island of Dressrosa, the whole place is his playground. Not only that, he has the power of the Busoshoku Haki as well. This was demonstrated when he coated his whole body with it.
Unfortunately, this is the new Zoro we are taking about. Trained under the tutelage of the world’s greatest swordsman, Mihawk of the Shichibukai (also know as the Seven Warlords of the sea), Zoro now is also able to use the fame Busoshoku Haki. And the fact that Zoro was still able to cut down Pica in his Haki clan armour without a dent to his sword shows Zoro’s haki is far superior.
In the past Zoro always had to fight till the point of extreme exhaustion, now, the new 320 million bounty Roronoa Zoro is a very different beast altogether, near the top league of most powerful non devil fruit user.
Usopp vs Sugar
Usopp’s bounty is now the third highest in the Strawhat Crew at 200 million?!?! Even higher than monster chef Sanji’s 177 million bounty?! Did I hear you right?? Yup folks, that is the hilariously fact now, so funny until that even Franky wanted to struggle Usopp out of shock.
Throughout the One Piece story Usopp was always been portrayed as a more cowardly member of the crew, although his father Yasopp is part of the legendary Yonko (aka Four Emperors) – Red-Haired Shanks’ crew.
Make no mistake, although the first time when he brought down Officer Sugar of the Donquixote Pirates was through sher luck (which ended the reign over the slave toys and thus rank Usopp amongst the most wanted during the Dressrosa story plot), the second was the breakthrough which gave hints of his talented bloodline.
From a distance so far that Usopp is barely even able to see with naked eyes and sniper equipments, he required Viola’s Glare-Glare Fruit’s ability to give him the rough location of Sugar, who was also behind the castle walls. It was only through Usopp’s awaken Haki was he able to bring down Sugar.
Through that one shot, Usopp awakens his Kenbunshoku Haki, the ability for users to sense or feel the presence of others even if they are hidden or from a far away place. In doing so, Usopp became only the fourth known member of the Straw Hat crew to show the use of the powerful Haki ability, thus justifying his current huge bounty tag.
Nico Robin vs Cavendish
I wouldn’t exactly say this is a battle or fight, but it just says huge volumes about the skill and power of “Devil Child” Nico Robin. Although currently holding onto only a 130 million bounty, during one scene, she was easily able to lock up a rampaging Cavendish. Yes, the nasty crazy version of Cavendish when he is overtaken by his other personality, the Hakuba.
This 330 million bounty previous Supernova pirate was already a formidable and well known pirate prior to the Dressrosa incident. What is really powerful about Cavendish is when he turns into Hakuba, his greatly enhanced speed and swords skills allows him to cut down multiple opponents during the tournament as well as Dellinger, a high ranked officer of the Donquixote Pirates, in the final battle.
Yet, when the Hakuba went wild and wanted to assault Nico Robin, all she did was to utilize her flower-flower devil fruit and armed-lock Hakuba up. All without a piece of sweat. If it wasn’t that Kyros wanted to badly defeat Diamante, another top executive and killer of Kyros’ wife, preventing Robin from displaying her new found skills.
Sanji vs Jabra of the CP9
The Cipher Pol Number 9 (CP9) is part of the secret assassins organization under the World Government’s wing. Each member of the CP9 is able to use the full set of the Rokushiki technique, a form of special martial arts that consist of six skills. The CP9 that Luffy and his crew brought down at Enies Lobby was acclaimed as the strongest in all of CP9’s history, and Jabra was ranked the third strongest in that team.
Not only that, Jabra was a zoan type devil fruit user of the Mutt-Mutt Fruit Wolf Model. His transformation into a wolf greatly increases his strength and speed, which when coupled with his Rokushiki skills will be able to implement more damages to his opponents.
Unfortunately, he met up with “Black Leg” Sanji, the third strongest of the Straw Hat crew. Sanji’s footwork skills as well as his triumph finishing move of Diable Jambe, a move that heats up his leg till it glows hot and red, brought him victory against Jabra.
Although Sanji’s bounty now doesn’t quite ranked him as the third strongest in the crew (Usopp and Cavendish is way above him, Cavendish is part of the Straw Hat’s grand fleet division captain by-the-way), it’s only a matter of time when his future bounty will place him in the proper ranking his skills deserves.
Straw Hat Pirates vs Bartholomew Kuma
I have always ranked the Sabaody Archipelago Arc as one of the best and most exciting storylines in all of One Piece. Writer Eiichiro Oda is a firm believer of strength through adversity, and this battle just shows how the Straw Hat crew bounce back from it.
While on Sabaody Archipelago, while they were trying to flee from the marines, and ironically just after defeating a Pacifista (an cyborg that was developed as a clone like to the real Kuma), they met up with the formidable Bartholomew Kuma of the Seven Warlords of the sea.
Earlier during the Thriller Bark arc, Kuma has already shown his strength by easily defeating the Straw Hat crew, although most of the members were already exhausted. In Sabaody, Kuma’s not only took out a Pacifista, he also wipe clean the whole of the Straw Hats using his Paw-Paw fruit ability. There just wasn’t anyone strong enough to hold their own against a Shichibukai.
This just brought a harsh reality check for Luffy and his crew after a series of all conquering fights and battles. But it was also because of this incident that came the timeskip, during which for 2 years, all of the crew members went for their own form of training and development, so as to better prepare themselves for the coming New World, the real place to measure their strength against the very best in the pirate world.
